“The Homeless Are Not Forgotten, They are Survivors” - ...
"Thursday night, February 27, 2014 I had an opportunity to go downtown to work with Mr. Dick Lewis and the San Diego Chargers to help feed the Homeless. I went with my friend, Deacon Karyes Stockdale, his daughter Miracle and her friend, Tyra…

The experience was extremely touching and I shall always cherish the moment for the rest of my life! I’ve done this numerous of times but for some reason it was totally different as helping with the nurturing and feeding probably around 150 to 200 people. Here are some things that I saw;

1. I saw how the staff worked extremely hard with caution and determination.
2. I saw how the homeless catered to each other needs.
3. I saw how they comforted and encouraged one another.
4. I saw how one homeless man shared his dinner with another homeless man.
5. We spoke to a woman that had been homeless for over 12 years and she was extremely happy!
6. When we asked one of the men how he was doing? He said, “I thank God just for being alive”.
7. I witnessed the men from the Lighthouse coming together to nurture those that were homeless and brought words of encouragement after the feeding to the youth…
8. I heard the testimony of one of those men telling the young people to stay away from meth because it led him to anger and incarcerated for a period of 30 years. He was reared up in an abusive home and he did not know how to control his anger and it drove him to bitterness.
9. Last but not least, I was extremely disturbed because I saw that I was the only woman of color helping with the feeding on Thursday night. “Ladies, we have work to do.”

In Closing: After laying down Thursday night in my nice warm bed under my nice warm quilt crying out to God by asking a question because it was raining outside…..I said, “God what about the homeless, it’s raining and it is cold outside’? My answer was, “If I feed the fowls of the air, surely I will take care of my people”. “You just feed my Sheep”.

People of God, please take time out of your busy schedules and touch someone’s heart because that could be you. So many of us are only one step away from being homeless. “The Homeless are not forgotten, they are Survivors”. Somebody does care”.

Hats off and Kudos goes to Mr. Dick Lewis and the San Diego Chargers for a job well done in the San Diego County. You are not forgotten for your labor of love!
Keep up the good work!

Please keep Mr. Dick Lewis in your prayers….

Love you,
